From yards of unwanted fabric came 90 blankets, a gift for children at Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.
In December, Bee Johnson received a call from Willis Biddle asking if she wanted more fabric as he wanted to get rid of the many yards his deceased wife had accumulated. A couple of years ago, Mrs. Johnson had made a dozen blankets for the Ronald McDonald House using Biddle?s fabric and following in the years of tradition of the Weak-Enders Camper Club, of which Mrs.Johnson and her husband Dean are members.
?The Weak-Enders have made blankets for [Ronald McDonald House] for years,? said Mrs. Johnson.
Before Christmas, Mrs. Johnson, with the help of her husband, picked out fabric she thought would be appropriate from the Biddle ?stash.?
?There were three garbage bags full,? Mr. Johnson chuckled, adding, ?We could hardly carry them up out of the basement.?
The result 90 blankets.
The blankets are different sizes for both boys and girls of ages from a few weeks to high school age.
