Arrests
A deputy reported being out with a subject on a golf cart all over the roadway, Thursday night at Third Street in Wellman. Mathew John Rios, 41, of Wellman, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, second offense.
An officer reported being on a vehicle stop with a subject on a bicycle, early Friday morning at South Marion Avenue and West Van Buren Street in Washington. Matthew Mark Smith, 24, of Brighton, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for operating a vehicle without owner's permission. Bond was $2,000 cash only; pickup/100-mile radius. The officer served the warrant, and the warrant entry was cleared from the system.
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, early Friday morning at 220th Street and Orange Avenue in Washington. Two additional officers also responded. Colby Niles Counce, 26, of Washington, was arrested on charges of OWI, first offense, and speed.
Traffic stop serious
An officer reported stopping a vehicle at the beach, Thursday afternoon at Lake Darling Road in Brighton. A citation was issued to Anthony James Durham, of Washington, for driving under suspension.
An officer reported a vehicle stop, Thursday evening at Highway 218 and 230th Street in Ainsworth. Jesus Antonio Minard, 24, of Washington, was cited for driving while license suspended, first offense.
An officer reported being out with a vehicle with no license plates, Thursday night at South Second Avenue and East Adams Street in Washington. Anthony J. Casady, 55, of Bonaparte, was cited for driving under suspension, eighth offense. The vehicle was released to a valid driver.
Traffic other
A caller received a report of vehicles parked in the area of First Avenue and Highway 22 that needed to be moved for safety reasons for the city fireworks, Thursday night in the area of First Avenue and Highway 22 in Wellman. An officer responded. The vehicle was on private property, and the business was advised that it could have the vehicle towed.
A caller Thursday night at First Street in Kalona reported that a truck with Nebraska license plates had been parked under their business sign since the previous day. An officer responded. The vehicle was on private property, and the owner was advised that it could be towed.
Disabled vehicles
A deputy reported an unoccupied vehicle in the middle of the roadway, Thursday night at Highway 1 and Lexington Boulevard in Washington. The officer found the owner, who advised that they were picking up a dead bird.
A deputy reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Thursday night at Larch Avenue and Highway 22 in Kalona. The subject was parked to grab his mail.
Animal complaint
A caller Thursday morning at East Fountain Street and North Benton Street in Brighton reported three horses running loose on Highway 1 northbound from Brighton. An officer responded, and contact was made with the owners. They located the horses and were working on catching the last two.
A caller Thursday morning at East Van Buren Street in Washington reported a loose white pitbull and believed it was loose the past couple of days as well. A second caller reported that it was in an altercation with another dog being walked by two females. An officer responded. A written warning was given to Kevin Zapiens Mojarro, of Washington, for allowing a dog to run at large.
A caller Thursday morning at East Main Street in Brighton reported a horse that had been in a trailer for the past five hours. The other two horses were running loose. They all belonged to the same owner. The caller requested to speak with a deputy. An officer was unable to locate the owner and planned to check back later.
A caller Thursday afternoon at South Avenue C in Washington reported a dog on a tie-out in the sun. It was a tall, skinny dog and was wrapped around a pole. The caller requested an officer. An officer spoke with the owner, who was going to take care of it.
Assault
A caller Thursday morning at Nutmeg Avenue in Kalona reported that she was assaulted by her boyfriend. They were breaking up, and he was also taking items that belonged to her. An officer spoke with both parties. Three items were retrieved from the male and returned to the female. She refused to cooperate further.
Barking dog
A caller early Friday morning at 133rd Street in Wellman reported that the neighbor's dog was barking. An officer responded and spoke with the owner, who was given a verbal warning for barking dog. The dog was taken inside.
Burglary
A caller Thursday morning at Highway 22 in Riverside reported that his wife's purse was stolen from their truck sometime during the night while the vehicle was parked in the casino parking lot. It included two checkbooks, a debit card, and a wallet with no cash. Two officers responded. A report was filed.
A caller Thursday afternoon at Fourth Street in Kalona reported items stolen from their residence. An officer responded. A report will be filed.
DP & Q
A caller Thursday night at East Van Buren Street in Washington reported juveniles setting off fireworks in the street. An officer advised the juveniles to move on.
A caller Thursday night at South Avenue C and West Madison Street in Washington reported people using fireworks in the street. An officer responded. They were no longer using fireworks in the area.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Thursday morning at Fourth Street in Wellman reported that she was having an argument with her boyfriend, and there were four youngsters at the residence. An officer spoke with both parties. The male subject left the residence.
Runaways/missing person
A caller Thursday afternoon at B Avenue in Kalona reported that her son was home for a few days from Four Oaks in Mason City, and he just took off without her permission. He was on foot in Kalona, wearing white shorts and no shirt. The juvenile had returned before a deputy arrived. The mother was advised to transport him back to Four Oaks.
Welfare check
A caller Thursday night at West Monroe Street in Washington reported a subject crying in the apartment next to her. Two officers responded and spoke to the subject, who advised she was OK.
A caller early Friday morning at East Main Street in Washington reported a subject who had not been acting normal. An officer spoke to the caller. The information was documented.
All other theft
A gas drive-off of $31.63 was reported, Thursday morning at West Madison Street in Washington. Dispatch made contact with the registered owner, who returned to pay. There was an issue with the pump when paying.
A caller Thursday night at East Madison Street in Washington reported that his 'ex” had stolen an item from his house the previous day. An officer spoke to the caller, who advised that his 'ex” was bringing the item back.
