The Fairfield Farmers Market is held Wednesdays and Saturdays from May through the end of October at Howard Park. The market is open from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Vendors at the market always offer a variety of baked goods, locally made items and plants in addition to locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Some of the fruits and vegetables available in June will include spinach, asparagus, leeks, rhubarb, lettuce, strawberries, green onions, radishes, and zucchini. The second half of the month?s harvests also could include the cabbage family, carrots, peas and swiss chard.
While browsing the vendors?s tables, shoppers also can enjoy the entertainment.
June 6, to coincide with the grand opening of the skate park in OB Nelson Park and the summer reading program kick-off at Fairfield Public Library, youth services librarian Afton Hallauer will be reading stories from 10-11 a.m. Music fun for the whole family, provided by Randy Pringle, will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring castanets, shakers and tambourines to join in.
Something Italian is in the air June 13. Shoppers will sense the difference in the atmosphere. They will see a puppet show and hear the most melodious sounds from a singer and strolling performers using traditional Italian instruments. The Italian-themed day is a nod to the 10th annual free All Things Italian Festival hosted by the Society of Fairfield Italian Americans on the Fairfield square.
Entertainment on June 20 will be a surprise grouping of Fairfest performers. Get ready to be awe struck and left wanting for more, said the organizers.
The month will wrap up June 27 with music provided by Michael Nova that seems to be coming from another culture, galaxy or dimension.
