Kaylee Vogel to attend Girls State
Kaylee Vogel of Washington has been chosen by Unit 29 Leon Beatty of Washington, to attend the annual session of the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State to be held June 14-19, 2015, on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. She is the daughter of Julie Vogel and Jeff Vogel.

Kaylee Vogel of Washington has been chosen by Unit 29 Leon Beatty of Washington, to attend the annual session of the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State to be held June 14-19, 2015, on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. She is the daughter of Julie Vogel and Jeff Vogel.
She will be one of over 300 girls attending who have completed their junior year of high school. She will learn through a ?hands-on? experience about the political system involved in the government of Iowa. Throughout the week, the girls will campaign for office; create party platforms; hold city, county and state elections; and run their own cities. In addition to their political activities, the girls will hear several motivational speakers and several local and state government officials. The culmination of the week will be on Friday evening, June 19, with the inauguration of the newly elected state officials.
Vogel attends Washington High School and is involved in the following activities: Honor Roll, National Honor Society, varsity football cheerleading, competition cheerleading, Dance Marathon, Silver Cord, SADD, JOOI Club, Rock In Prevention Program, Earthbook Publications, member of Prairie Pride 4-H Club (secretary), member of Washington County 4-H County Council, Studio E! Dancer, member of St. James Catholic Church, member of St. James Youth Group, Religious Education teacher assistant, Hills Bank Youth Salute.
She was chosen to attend Girls State on the basis of interest, leadership, and scholastic qualities. Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and staffed by women who volunteer their time for this week of government at Girls State. Across the nation, over 20,000 young women attend this program each summer, learning about the political process.
