Local resident Patti Miller presents ?Keeping History Alive? at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service event organized by the Fairfield Volunteer Center and Fairfield Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Monday at the Fairfield Public Library. Miller told her personal story of working as a civil rights activist in Mississippi during the Freedom Summer of 1964, and after that, working with King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Chicago on the Project to End Slums. Miller?s talk served to inspire attendees to continue to volunteer and serve others throughout the year. During the event, several local nonprofit organizations provided information so attendees could find more ways to be involved and make a difference in others? lives. Admission to the event was a donation to the New Life Community Church food pantry. Donations of nonperishable food can be dropped off at the Fairfield Volunteer Center at the library through Saturday.
