Fly Van Buren was held the morning of Saturday, June 10 at the Keosauqua Municipal Airport (6K9).
Well over 40 planes flew in to the Villages of Van Buren on an idyllic sunny morning. The Keosauqua Lions Club all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast served and sold over 200 breakfasts. Dar Chapman displayed his impressive collection of radio control airplanes in the hangar.
Indian Hills Community College Aviation Department flew in the IHCC plane to the Fly-In to provide visitors with information about their Aviation programs. Children participated in creating an airplane sack and raced to see who could cross the finish line first. The first and second place finishers received a Villages of Van Buren mug filled with goodies.
All the kids walked away with a water bottle and a coupon for a free small ice cream cone from Misty’s Malt Shop in Keosauqua.
Emily Starnes, Executive Director for the Villages of Van Buren said, “We had another great year with gorgeous weather. I had a pilot tell me that this is his favorite fly-in to attend which is the feedback we love to hear! You can’t beat a delicious Lions Club breakfast on a beautiful morning while admiring the planes arriving and departing. Everyone enjoying the morning in the Villages is what we love to see!”
The end of the event was the annual door prize drawings for two airplane rides. The winners were Eric Miller from Fairfield and Sue Cunningham from Cedar Falls. Congratulations to the winners and thank you all for coming out!
