Guests at the Sept. 12 meeting of the Kiwanis AMers were members of the Muscatine Kiwanis Club, two members Builders Club and five children. Twenty-four members were in attendance.
President Matt Brown reported on the board meeting. He passed a signup sheet for programs and greeters. The club needs programs for October.
Brown presented a check for $1,000 to Mike Murphy for the new building to be erected at Camp Reece.
The program was given by Becky Harkema, the Y director, who provided an update on the new programs at the Y. They are reaching out to the communities of Wellman, Kalona and Riverside. She also gave an update on the new building project to be located on 4.8 acres on West Fifth Street. The $9.5 million capital campaign will begin in May 2015, with the anticipated building to begin in the summer of 2016. The new facility is expected to be about 54,000 square feet, about the same size as the current facility, but with much more efficient use of space.
Brown presented a check of $1,000 to the Y.
