KRUU 100.1 FM, Fairfield?s people-powered solar radio station, presents a weekend of community fun Saturday and Sunday, commemorating three milestones: KRUU?s sixth year broadcasting in Jefferson County; its third anniversary as the Midwest?s only solar-powered radio station; and its third annual Listener Appreciation Week.
From 1-5 p.m. Saturday, the community is invited to a free open house at KRUU to tour the facilities, meet some of the show hosts, record a station identification, enjoy some treats including homemade ice cream made with Radiance Dairy milk and cream and ?Great Taste? co-host Kathy DuBois? special topping, a silent auction, CD sales tents, music and much more.
?We?re celebrating everyone who?s helped make this little station one of Fairfield?s big success stories,? said KRUU?s Corey Hickenbottom, ?especially all the listeners, amazing hosts, volunteers, partners and contributors.?
To put the icing on the cake, at 7 p.m. Sunday, key maestro Marco Benevento of Brooklyn brings his magic piano and world-class band, including bassist David Dreiwitz of Ween and drummer Andy Borger, who has performed with Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco, and Norah Jones, to Cafe Paradiso, with special opening act Mike Dillon.
?Marco is brilliant. What an honor for KRUU,? said station manager James Moore. ?Last time he was here, he left everyone hanging from the rafters.?
A new communitywide annual concert series will be announced at the concert.
