Lake Darling Watershed tour scheduled Oct. 11

A Lake Darling Watershed tour is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 11.

Lake Darling was under renovation for many years as the 300-acre lake was drained, a new dam built, and the surrounding watershed improved. Stan Simmons was the watershed coordinator for the project. He will be giving the tour.

During the tour, Simmons will share about the project which consisted of 59 different landowners taking part in over 162 projects on private ground to improve the area. This work protects the lake from silt accumulation, which led to the previous issues with poor water quality.

Participants should meet at the Jefferson County Park Nature Center.
