While Salem hosts the 136th Old Settlers Reunion Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, Lewelling Quaker Museum volunteers will continue the museum reunion tradition of promoting the remembrance of history with several activities Saturday.
All activities sponsored by the museum will be free and open to the public.
Open house tours featuring Salem's underground railroad and pioneer farming history are planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is a member of the Network to Freedom of the National Park Service.
Historian and author Rachelle Chase will have a discussion and book signing of 'Creating the Black Utopia, Buxton, Iowa” from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the park and at the museum.
A farm and home implements and tools of bygone years activity will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the square. The activity tests reunion-goers on their knowledge of farm and home days past.
A Remembrance of World War I and tribute to American Legion Post 94 on its 100th anniversary is planned at 1 p.m., with a history presentation at the Salem Community Center.
