IOWA CITY ? In one of the closest state-qualifying races Thursday, the Danville-New London team narrowly punched their ticket to state cross-country in Iowa City.
The team, which features mostly Danville athletes but sports a couple of New London runners, placed third by just two points. Danville/New London scored 107 and North Cedar was just behind them with a score of 109.
New London junior led the way for the squad, finishing third place overall with a time of 21:25.06. She was one of three Danville-New London runners to crack the top 10. Addy Parrott was sixth in 21:42.67, and Alyssa Pfadenhauer placed 10th in 22:08.50.
Lilly Garnsley was the next Danville-New London runner to cross the line, finishing 44th in 25:06.41. Breanna Teel was 47th in 25:25.06 to round out the scorers. Allyson Farley placed 57th in 26:43.88, and Elaina Johnson was right behind her in 58th with a time of 26:45.28.
Others to come out of the Iowa City 2A girls? field were Monticello (26 points) and hosting school Regina (79 points).
The Danville-New London girls will show down with the best teams in 2A at the state meet in Ft. Dodge on Saturday, Oct. 28.
