LIBERTYVILLE ? Students at Libertyville Elementary School are learning about the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Kids.
In October, the school focused on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind, which means to have a plan. It means ?I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school?s mission and vision. I look for ways to be a good citizen.?
Teachers nominated one student, who exemplified Habit Two, from their classrooms for recognition at a recent assembly.
Kindergarten teacher Brandi Strickler said, ?Carley Seeley begins with the end in mind. She returns her homework each week on time and done with pride. Carley understands that she can have a plan to accomplish her goals. She can work toward a goal. For example, Carley wanted to learn her phone number. She practiced each day at school until she could recite it without looking. She can be proud of the steps she took. Great job Carley.?
First-grade teacher Sheryl Greiner said, ?Brooke Miller knows what it means to begin with the end in mind. She sticks to her work and participates in group activities so we can meet our goals and get our work done. When we do a project or play a game, she asks questions to help everyone understand the plan. She knows good choices that help her set goals and stick with a plan.?
Second-grade teacher Kari Mahler said, ?Sophie Stever shows what it means to begin with the end in mind. She is a go-getter at setting goals for herself and does not hesitate to ask questions if she is unclear about assignments. She is also a great citizen in our classroom for helping out other students and giving up what she wants to do, to help her peers in what they may be doing to accomplish their goals. Sophie is a great role model for her peers.?
Third-grade teacher Patti Johnston said, ?Brad Smithburg knows what it means to begin with the end in mind. He does a good job of listening to all the directions before he begins a task. He thinks through the steps of a job to be done. He works until he is done and stays focused throughout his work. He contributes positively to the classroom discussions and is a good citizen.?
Fourth-grade teacher Erin Cracker said, ?Grace Stever portrays the habit to begin with the end in mind. She makes the right choices to achieve her classroom goals and when in doubt, Grace will raise her hand to make sure she understands the expectation. Also when done with an assignment, Grace is proactive and wants to set more goals for herself. Grace is a leader in our classroom because she makes smart choices and helps other students in doing so as well.?
