Students of good character are important at Libertyville and Washington elementary schools.
To show they?re important, awards are handed out at the end of the school year in the form of ?S.T.A.R.? awards at Libertyville school and ?Classroom Citizens of the Year? at Washington.
At Libertyville school, each letter of the word S.T.A.R. stands for a character trait: solving problems without fighting, treating everyone with kindness, accepting consequences without arguing, and respecting people and property.
Three students are nominated from each class by their peers and teacher as good classroom citizens who have shown the S.T.A.R. traits throughout the year. The entire staff at Libertyville school is then asked to vote on the students from each class they believe best represent S.T.A.R. students.
Winners of Libertyville?s 2010-2011 award are kindergartner Ellie Stever, first-grader Brynley Allison, second-grader Bailey Hird, third-grader Grace Stever and fourth-grader Hannah Clubb.
At Washington school, three students are nominated from each class by their peers as good classroom citizens who have displayed five character traits throughout the year: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring and citizenship. The entire staff at Washington then votes on the students from each class they believe best represent students of character.
The 2010-2011 Classroom Citizens of the Year are kindergartners Sara Kretz and Kate Pettit, first-graders Skye Krause and Danielle Breen, second-graders Nathan Whitney and Ella Wiegert, third-graders McKenna Allison and Lily Hoskins, and fourth-graders Jillian Dunlap and Madison Kraemer.
