As the cold sweeps across Iowa we are all getting out our winter gear to survive the chilly weather. Many of us are fortunate enough to have plenty of these items to keep us warm, but there are also members of our community who are in need. Therefore, it is the annual mission of the Washington Public Library to host a Mitten Tree. We will be collecting new adult and children mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and socks and these items can be dropped off at the library and put on the tree until Dec. 14.
At that time they will be distributed throughout the community. With the assistance of HACAP, the schools, the police department, Choices, and the Saturday Kitchen, these items will be given to those in need. I always think of the quote by Charles Dickens during our Mitten Tree campaign. 'No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
It is true that helping each other can only make us stronger as a community. Thank you for caring and for your contribution.
