The Fairfield Public Library is hosting its Summer Signup Event from 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The signup event is a one-stop information and registration for summer activities planned by area organizations.
Booths will be set up by Fairfield Art Association, Fairfield Park and Recreation Department, Girl Scouts, Jefferson County Nature Center, Iowa University Extension, 4-H, Jefferson County Fair Open Class Department and more.
?And of course the summer reading program,? said Fairfield Public Library?s youth services librarian Jessica Garchik
The ?Dream Big, Read? reading program, which runs from Saturday through July 26, has three levels this year: Early Literacy, in which parents read to the child; Dream Big for those who have finished kindergarten through fifth grades; and Own the Night for those who have finished sixth through 11th grades.
Children get prizes for signing up, as well as prizes at different points along the way. Additionally, participants who finish the program will have their names entered in a drawing for three gift cards.
Events at the library Saturday also will include the Friends of the Library book sale, a bouncy castle and safety instruction by Fairfield police and firefighters.
Garchik is looking for a few volunteers to help register children for the summer reading program.
She would like three volunteers in the meeting room to sign-up children for the reading program and hand out event calendars, three volunteers to paint faces and two for a reading marathon.
?If you could help in any way, it would be very much appreciated,? she said.
Contact Garchik by visiting the library, calling 472-6551, extension 14 or emailing jgarchik@fairfield.lib.ia.us.
