Hello everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the heat while it lasts, the holidays are sooner than we think and so is the snow. This school year I have had the opportunity to have free college classes at the Kirkwood branch in Washington since I am a high school student. I have just finished my first week off great, but without a physical textbook in hand. As society evolves it has come to my attention that it is becoming harder to find physical copies of books, documents, DVDs and documentaries.
Even though I am of the generation of technology, I still hold my books, DVDs and textbooks (when they aren’t online) very close to my heart. When I started my Human Anatomy and Physiology class I needed to study out of a real book. So where did I head? Our favorite library.
I found a Human body book and a couple other books that didn’t exactly pertain to the subject but good books just the same!
The library is full of good knowledge for the upcoming school year, we have an extensive non-fiction section upstairs, a Spanish section, computers, online resources, nonfiction DVDs, inter-library loans, Libby ebooks and audiobooks, Kanopy-jam packed with the great courses and documentaries. And, of course, if you can’t find what you need our excellent staff would be happy to help you.
Which brings me to my second point, the library will always have physical copies of everything, we will always have concerts, book studies, kid activities and people. But we won’t be able to keep up if we don’t have our wonderful community come out and participate. So please, join a book club, walk the gallery, come hear someone play music, read a book you haven’t read since you were small and spend time surrounded by people and things that are here now; not on a screen.
I would also like to add that our circulation has been sky high and I thank you! It makes me happy people are enjoying the library as much as I enjoy working here! You are serving us just by coming in to check out books, DVDs, etc., as much as we are serving you when you come in. Also if you have any ideas, program suggestions or thoughts please come in and let us know!
Have a great end of summer and a new school year!
