Have you noticed something new in downtown Winfield? Marlene Rossiter’s estate left money to the Lions Club to add beautification to the City of Winfield. Marlene’s husband, Myers, was a longtime Lions member. The Lions Club set up a committee for ideas.
Lion members Larry and Donna Montross saw a spinner in Bonaparte and thought it would be great for Winfield. Other ideas were having a mural painted or adding plants to the Freedom Rock area. After much consideration, the idea of a spinner was decided as the project.
First, the Club had to get permission from the city council to erect the spinner. Then, planning for where to place it and how to attach it permanently was done. Several Lions helped level the land, make the blocking and finally had the concrete poured and leveled.
Lion Larry Montross and his son drove to Lebanon, Missouri to pickup the spinner from the Missouri Spinner Company. Lion members Alex Culver, Rodney Kolkman, Bob Paisley, Larry Montross, Jeff Maeder, Ed Kilpatrick, and Ben Johnson put the spinner in place. Lion Donna Montross brought drinks and cookies for the crew and her son and grandson also helped.
Al Fear, a local artisan, created a metal tribute to Myers and Marlene which is mounted on the spinner.
So, make a trip to Winfield and see the latest addition!
