Washington County Extension's 4-H volunteers participated in a training titled '4-H Prepares Youth for the Future” where they explored how they play a role in preparing local youth for future careers. Volunteers developed opportunities for youth to refine skills that will prepare them for the future and identified ways to help youth explore, learn, practice, and experience possible careers. In addition, leaders learned skills and gained resources that be used to foster independence in youth.
This training is part of ISU Extension and Outreach's 4-H Youth Development annual training for over 3,7000 volunteers across Iowa. Amy Green, Washington County 4-H & Youth Coordinator sees these trainings to be useful for a variety of reasons. 'It's powerful to gather our volunteers for these trainings because their common bond and experiences caring about the young people of this county through 4-H really does make this program special. These volunteers care about the program, families, youth, doing what's right and care about each other. They make this a family I want to be a part of,” said Green.
