Local Girl Scouts receive awards for service, membership
On Friday, May 20, 16 local Girl Scouts and six leaders spent the evening at Camp L Kee Ta at the Campfire and Canvas event hosted by the Henry County Service Unit.
The group enjoyed supper, games and roasting marshmallows to make s?mores with Thanks A Lot cookies. Before lights out, the group sang karaoke.

On Friday, May 20, 16 local Girl Scouts and six leaders spent the evening at Camp L Kee Ta at the Campfire and Canvas event hosted by the Henry County Service Unit.
The group enjoyed supper, games and roasting marshmallows to make s?mores with Thanks A Lot cookies. Before lights out, the group sang karaoke.
On Saturday morning, after breakfast, the girls hiked across the camp trails investigating nature and checking out the tree houses. Everyone finished off the morning by painting a camping scene taught by Robin Fischer.
Sunday evening was the awards night for the girls and leaders. Each troop top sell of TOSS (candy and magazine sales) and cookie sellers were awarded certificates. Ten girls received their 500 club certificates. These girls sold over 500 boxes of cookies and will have a special celebration in June.
Five leaders were awarded their five-year pin and one leader received a 10-year membership pin. The Girl Scout Council also awarded the following leaders Appreciation Pins: Dawn Hixson, Tamara Hudson, Tina Peterson and Rhonda Runyon. Seven leaders received Volunteer of Excellence from council, including Becky Kracht, Jenny Stewart, Tina Peterson, Jessica Sandersfeld, Rhonda Runyon, Dawn Hixson and Tamara Hudson.
The next activity planned for the service unit is a swim party on Aug. 6, 2016.
