Community guests at the 10th anniversary open house of the Mt. Pleasant congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be hosted by ?Nauvoo on the Road?, a group of living history reenactors, who bring to life Nauvoo, Ill., in the 1840?s.
The celebration open house, marking the establishment of the local congregation in 2006, will be held on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church, located at 1100 Palm Avenue, in Mt. Pleasant.
In the early 1840?s, Nauvoo, Ill., was the second largest city in Illinois and home to over 20,000 Latter-day Saints.
The ?Nauvoo on the Road? cast provides a set of performances, activities and demonstrations, which will provide a look at the life of these early Midwestern pioneers. Activities include pioneer games, candle making, cookie baking, as well as brick and rope making.
?Nauvoo on the Road? is an extension of Historic Nauvoo, a living history village featuring 1840?s era historic sites and artifact collections in Nauvoo, Ill.
The open house will also provide visitors with the opportunity to learn about the organizations of the church for men, women, youth and children through displays and presentations. A family history program will be provided to help individuals interested in working on their genealogy.
Light refreshments will be served.
The Mt. Pleasant branch of the Church is a bilingual (English and Spanish) congregation comprised of over 125 families living in the Mt. Pleasant, New London, Salem and rural Henry County area. Members have served missions throughout the United States and around the world.
