Local Optimist's to participate in 'Shave to Save'

The Iowa Optimist District is conducting a Childhood Cancer Campaign fundraiser. Several District optimist members throughout Iowa will have their heads SHAVED at the District?s 3rd Quarter Conference on April 30, in Coralville. Each will be collecting pledges/donations to support this great cause and a goal of $30,000. Locally this includes Jim Cluney and Donald Pfeiffer of the Washington Optimist Club, and Dennis Phares of the Kalona Optimist Club.

Money raised will be donated to the University of Iowa Children?s Hospital specific to pediatric cancer research or family assistance ? families will receive funds to cover transportation, lodging, parking expenses while their children are being treated at the hospital; Blank Children?s Hospital in Des Moines pediatric oncology care and patient support; Metro Area Youth Foundation in Omaha, Nebraska, for financial assistance to families with children diagnosed with cancer; and Johns Hopkins Research Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, specific funding for pediatric oncology research.

Friends who would like to donate can contact these soon-to-be ?bald headed? men as they experience what most cancer patients experience and that is the loss of their hair.
