Local relay raises $61,000

Relay for Life of Jefferson County committee members met Monday evening at Jefferson County Health Center to review results of the May 14 event.

The total amount raised was $61,092.71. The top three fundraising teams were Libertyville Savings Bank, $5,540; Full Effect Salon, $3,203.82; and Cropper Walkers, $3,179.50. Top individual fund raisers were Dawn Bechtel, $1,342.50; and Barb Bloom, $984.

Luminaria sales were $3,070. Quilt raffle ticket sales were $2,111.52. Themed basket sales totaled $1,995.

Committee meetings will resume in the fall, but plans are already under way for the 2012 Relay for Life.

The committee is collecting recipes for a Relay for Life cookbook. Recipes can be e-mailed to cynthiapost@iowatelecom.net or kortney@iowatelecom.net. Recipe collection boxes also will be placed around Jefferson County with locations to be announced at a later date. Donors are asked to indicate on their recipe card if they are a cancer survivor.
