Local students graduate from Iowa Wesleyan

Ninety-two students graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University in May.
“The Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters were unique and held many changes, but these 92 graduates still persevered and were determined to graduate from IW during these uncertain times,” stated a news release from the university. “Iowa Wesleyan University was excited to host an in-person commencement program for all May 2020, August 2020, December 2020, May 2021, and August 2021 graduates on May 1st, 2021.”

Students graduate from IW’s Teacher Education Program
On May 6, 12 students from the Teacher Education Program completed student teaching in area schools. Each teacher candidate completes two placements in different classrooms, buildings and districts in order to gain experience in various grade levels and diverse settings.
Student teachers solo teach for a minimum of 10 days in each setting, with many acting as the lead teacher of even longer. During spring 2021, five candidates student-taught in elementary settings, six in physical education settings, one student taught in elementary and secondary music, and one in special education. Following successful passage of two standardized exit exams, each will be recommended to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for teacher licensure.
