Local students to compete in Future Problem Solving International Competition
Jun. 8, 2022 2:21 pm
On Thursday, June 9, several area home schooled students will be competing in the Future Problem Solving International Competition.
Although students worldwide will be participating, the local qualifiers will complete their competition in Iowa. The team of Samuel Snyder (Richland, parents Jamie and Michelle Snyder), Ariana Parsons (Wayland, parents John and Brandy Parsons), Mary Fritz (Brighton, parents Victor and Angela), and Jacob Newton (Iowa City, parents David and Jedda Newton) won the Iowa senior division Future Problem Solving team championship in April and will represent Iowa. Teams will be using their problem-solving skills to analyze a futuristic situation on the topic of Antibiotic Resistance.
In a separate competition, Elizabeth Snyder (Richland, parents Jamie and Michelle Snyder) won the Iowa junior division short story writing competition earlier this year, and her story was submitted for international evaluation. Elizabeth’s story placed 8th worldwide.
