Eleven members of Log Cabin Questers met at the Ainsworth Four Corners Restaurant on June 4. Diane Anding was the hostess.
Sheila Gerot conducted the business meeting. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Norma Stutzman gave the treasurer?s report. Discussion was held regarding the special project money raised last summer from a fundraising event. Sheila announced that on June 13, the group?s preservation and restoration, and ways and means committee supplies will be handed over to the next person responsible for this task. She also announced that there are no area or state days scheduled during the next year.
Nancy Schmidt presented the program. She told of the importance of sewing as part of a young girl?s education in 1800s and early 1900s. She talked about political thimbles, and advertising thimbles, all of which were used during the early to mid 1900?s. She showed many thimbles from her mother?s thimble collection, talking about those made from gold, silver, as well as other types of materials. Members then answered roll call, by showing a thimble or other sewing tool from the past.
Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be hosted by Billie Nickolan. Members are asked to meet at Max Cast in Kalona on July 2, at 1:30 p.m.
