Log Cabin Questers

Nancy Schmidt was hostess to 12 Log Cabin Questers on Sept. 4, 2014.

President Sheila Gerot conducted the business meeting. The group will continue as the state preservation and restoration committee for the upcoming year. Items to be sold include jams and jellies, cookie cutters, planters, birds, Halloween and Christmas ornaments, and Christmas cards. Those assisting with the sales at Fall Area Days are: Sept. 20 in Van Meter, Karen Lyons and Sheila; Sept. 27 in Keokuk, Sharon Hahn and Sheila; and Oct. 4 in Cedar Falls, Sharon Hahn and Nancy Schmidt. Members were reminded of registration information that can be found in recent Hawkeye Tales, the Iowa Questers publication.

Norma Stutzman, treasurer, reported on the recent garden walk as a successful fundraiser. Proceeds will be donated to the Log Cabin restoration project. Program booklets were handed out. The December meeting was discussed. It will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, in Kalona. An invitation to Octagon Questers 40th anniversary celebration to be held in Hills on Sept. 8 was shared.

Peg Gerot presented the program, ?The Postal Service ... 100 Years Ago.? She cited the development of the postal system from deliveries on horseback, to rail train delivery in the late 1800s, to air mail delivery in l918. She shared photos showing the workplace of mail clerks and told of their duties.

Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be on Oct. 9, at the home of Sheila Gerot, who will also present the program on Fentonware.
