President Sheila Gerot conducted the business meeting. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read by Secretary Nancy Schmidt. Norma Stutzman gave the treasurer?s report.
Upcoming events include: Terrace Hill Tea on Monday, Dec. 8, at 9:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. with a cost per person, and Log Cabin Christmas meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the home of Ila Miller in Kalona. The Historical Society will be having Christmas at Conger House, and the group agreed to decorate a room. Theme will be decided at a later date.
Sheila presented the program on Fentonware. It was founded by the Fenton brothers in 1905, in Ohio. They built a factory in West Virginia in 1906, and were the first to introduce carnival glass in 1907. They continued to expand through 1970, producing a variety of items such as dishes, vases, perfume bottles, and more practical items such as mixing bowls during the years of the Depression. They created a wide variety of glassware, such as opalescent in many colors, custard, silvercrest, hobnail milk glass, and cranberry coin dot. The company began faltering during 2007, and finally stopped production of dishes in 2011. They are currently producing glass beads and jewelery items.
The group enjoyed viewing Sheila?s extensive collection of Fentonware, and refreshments following the program. The next meeting will be Nov. 6 at the home of Norma Stutzman. Bev Bartmann will present the program, ?Colonial Flowers and Herbs.?
