Billie introduced Paul Shebeck, who led the group on a tour of St. Mary?s Parish in Riverside. St. Mary?s was the first church in Riverside, built in 1877. The stained glass windows were highlighted, as he cited their origins and original costs. History of the school there was also mentioned. Built in 1912, it served many Riverside area families, and closed in 1960. The most recent renovation is the Fellowship Hall, which is used for a variety of occasions.
A brief business meeting was held. President Sheila Gerot opened the meeting with a thought for the day. Members signed up for hostess and program responsibilities for the upcoming year. The upcoming area meetings to be held are: Van Meter on Sept. 20; Keokuk, Sept. 27; and Cedar Falls, Oct. 4. Members should watch the newsletter for registration due dates.
The group?s fundraiser was also discussed. All Washington County Questers are invited to attend and to bring a guest to the event on July 30, beginning at 10 a.m. at the home of Sheila and Sam Gerot, 1540 Tulip Ave., Riverside. The program includes a tour of Patterson Cemetery, with the restoration process explained by Arlen Nickolan, a garden walk at the Gerot residence, and refreshments. There will be a cost per person. Proceeds will go to the Alexander Young Log Cabin in Washington. Members should RSVP to Sheila by July 23 with the number attending.
Refreshments were served as members browsed through the gift shop.
The next meeting will be on Sept. 4, with location to be determined.
