Log Cabin Questers meeting

Jul. 26, 2019 3:45 pm
Log Cabin Questers met on Thursday, July 11, 2019, and traveled to Johnny Clock Museum in Lockridge. A tour of the museum was given by the wife of the late sculptor, John R. McClain. The museum includes more than 50 full-size carvings with clocks, intricate details, and moving displays within the carvings. Many different types of wood were used, including linden, birch, red and white oak, walnut, butternut, cherry, sycamore and others. The wood was collected from every state, but most was from Iowa. Each clock has a theme, such as Old Threshers, Disney, historic Lockridge, churches, farms, etc. The carver's wife, Pat, stated that each clock took at least a year to complete. The museum displays span more than 41 years and 150,000 hours of work -- all done with a utility knife, his preferred tool. She also gave information on the history of Lockridge. The area had once been called Coalport because of a coal mine in the area and a train, which is still nearby.
Following the tour, the group went to Dairy Mart in Ainsworth to enjoy ice cream treats and conduct a business meeting.
