The Lord's Cupboard in Fairfield will hold its annual distribution of Christmas Meal Boxes this year, but it will not invite the public to pack the boxes as in years past.
The nonprofit organization made the announcement this week, and said the change was prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. A small group of volunteers will pack the meal boxes this year.
The food pantry urges low-income residents of Jefferson County to register for their Christmas Meal Boxes during October. Anyone who lives in Jefferson County and has income low enough to qualify for SNAP ('food stamps”) may register for a box. A chart of income guidelines can be found at www.LordsCupboard.org.
Each December, the Lord's Cupboard of Jefferson County distributes Christmas Meal Boxes to low-income residents to help make the holiday season a little brighter. Each box contains ingredients for a traditional holiday supper, plus extra meals and snacks.
Box pick-up will be between Dec. 7-18. Those who register for a box will receive a mailed notification of time and place for box pick-up. Please note, there is no automatic registration for a Box. Only those who request a Box will receive one.
Boxes can be requested in one of these ways:
1. Private Message to The Lord's Cupboard of Jefferson County on Facebook
2. email lordscupboard@lisco.com
3. call 641-472-8457
The Lord's Cupboard of Jefferson County serves as Jefferson County, Iowa's emergency food pantry and serves about 600 food orders per month. Almost half of those served by the pantry are under the age of 18. Donations of food or cash are accepted at www.LordsCupboard.org, or at 303 North 4th Street in Fairfield, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 1-3:45 p.m.
