Louisa County hunter education Aug. 21

A Louisa County hunter education class will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chinkapin Bluffs Recreation Area and Thursday, Aug. 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Langwood Education Center. Students must attend both days to complete their hunter education requirement.

This free course consists of classroom lessons, field experiences and a written test. The class will be held entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly. Students will need to bring a sack lunch and drink to the Saturday class as well as a filled water bottle. Students may also wish to bring a lawn chair to sit in.

Iowa residents born after Jan. 1, 1972 and nonresidents born after Jan. 1, 1967, must satisfactorily complete a hunter education course in order to obtain a hunting license. Participants must be at least 11 years old to attend, however certificates are not valid until the child’s 12th birthday.

Registration is required. In order to register, you will need to go to the Iowa DNR website at license.gooutdoorsiowa.com. If the person you are registering has purchased a tag or license in the past you should be able to click “Login” to get to his/her account. If the person taking the class has not, you will need to click “Enroll Now!” and fill out the information requested to create one. Once you have an account and are logged in, you can find and register for a hunter education class. To search for this class, try putting Aug. 21, 2021 as the date or in the location box type “Langwood Education Center.” Parents/Guardians who are helping their child create an account and get registered will need to use the participant’s name.
