Love-Smith gets surprise birthday party

Surprise Birthday Party
A surprise birthday party for Sonya Love-Smith was arranged by Kenny Kruse Saturday evening, Sept. 17, 2022 at the Press Box in Mt. Pleasant.
Attending were: Carolyn Love and Bruce Davis; Larry Love; Betsy and Preston Lasek; Wesley, Lawson and Isaac Love; Jamie Brames; Audrey Smith; Tyler and Maggie Robertson, Kinsley and Noah; Kim and Henry Farrell; Karen Dennler; Anna Gillis; Kennifer, Ian and Eli Arbogast, Sam and John Kruse and Kenny Kruse and several friends from Keosauqua.
United Church Women
The United Church Women met Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the United Church of Crawfordsville with eight ladies present.
The meeting opened with Debbie Lowe giving the meditation using the book, "Tea Time with God," " Loosen Your Ties" and "Courage for Closure."
The Opening Creed was read together.
The minutes of the July 12 meeting given by Secretary Billie Jo Rose were approved as read.
Pat Miller gave the treasurer's report and it will be filed for audit.
Correspondence: There was a certificate of appreciation presented to the UCW from the Iowa Mission Today Unit from the Golden Valley District.

Local Activities:
A coffee had been held following a funeral on September 13.
The purchase of paper supplies was being checked into.
Dorcas:
A quilt had been given to a local family with a new baby.
A nearby nursing home had been contacted about receiving quilts and some were going to be made for the Ingathering.
Cards, flowers and gifts:
The usual.
Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach:
The World Thank Offering was taken and Margaret presented an interesting program telling where that offering goes and its use by the Presbytery for grants to help women in need.
The Regular Offering the Least Coin Offering was also taken and the Prayer of the Least Coin was read together.
Old Business:
The report from the Rummage Sale was that it was a very successful
New Business:
Election of Officers for the new year: The slate of Officers for 2023 was presented and elected unanimously.
Harvest Sale Supper: The Younger married couples will be taking this project over with the help of those who have done this in the past.

UPW: Retreat at Cedar River Ranch Resort & Events Center, Saturday, October 8.
Next meeting: Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 at 2 p.m.
Meditation: Margaret Patterson; Hostess: Linda Wiltfang
The treasury will be accessed and Blessing Boxes are to be brought to this meeting.

Following a motion to adjourn the Closing Creed was read in unison. Deb thanked Cathy for hostessing.
Closing thoughts from Deb were "Ninety percent of the friction in life is caused by the wrong tone of voice." A man finds joy in giving an apt reply and how good is a timely word! "Proverbs 15: 23.
