On Thursday, July 9, 2020, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 10 of Davenport presented the Columbus Junction Public Library with a donation of $2,000 to purchase 10 Chromebooks for check out.
These grant dollars were secured through partnerships with Ascentra Credit Union and Community First Credit Union, both located in Washington. Mike Reyes, President of LULAC Council 10, was very pleased to award these dollars, knowing the Chromebooks would help the community respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by increasing access for the community's children and families. With the need for distance learning and the uncertainty of the coming school year, additional devices for circulation will be much appreciated.
Alvaro Macias, of Ascentra Credit Union, and David Suarez, of Community First Credit Union, were present for the award as well and commented on their appreciation for the project and the support it will provide to families.
'Thank you to LULAC, Ascentra Credit Union, and Community First Credit Union for this wonderful gift,” the library announced in a news release. 'The library looks forward to purchasing the Chromebooks and getting them ready for circulation.”
