Riverside native Macy Marek received the award for Leadership Excellence from Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Student Council. This award is given to a graduating senior based on involvement within clubs and organizations while at Iowa State.
While at Iowa State, Macy has held several leadership roles in Block & Bridle and Bacon Expo, been on the Livestock Judging Team, served as a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ambassador, is a member of Alpha Zeta Honors Fraternity and Cardinal Key Honor Society, and participated in several study abroad trips. Additionally, she is a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, has participated in Greek Week and Homecoming activities, and was in the President's Leadership Class.
'Macy's resume shows many leadership titles, yet it isn't the titles that make her a leader. She gained leadership skills by learning to work with different people with a common goal in mind, listening more to what others are saying and understanding before speaking,” said Jenna Rasmusson, 2019 president of CALS Council.
Award recipients will be recognized at the college convocation event Dec. 20, 2019 beginning at 10 a.m. in Hilton Coliseum. Presenting the award on behalf of council will be the 2019 CALS Council President, Jenna Rasmusson, and Vice President, Megan Zwiefel.
