Ames ? Macy Marek, daughter of Tim and Heather Marek, of Washington County, was awarded the $500 Iowa Bankers Association Southeast Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation at the recognition event Sunday, June 4 in Ames.
Marek will be a junior at Iowa State University in the fall of 2017 majoring in agricultural education. After she completes her degree, she is hoping to find a job with a company that allows her to travel and solve problems for the agriculture industry. 4-H involvement gave Marek leadership skills by holding club offices, giving presentations, and serving on 4-H County Council.
?4-H has sparked my interest in the agriculture industry and through each experience my spark grew,? Marek said. ?Now I am proud and excited to say the small spark that started when I was in fourth grade has developed into a burning flame of passion for the industry that I have grown up in and the industry that has shaped who I am today.?
Each of the six regions of the Iowa Bankers Association will recognize outstanding 4-H?ers who will be pursing a private or public, two-or four-year college degree in the state of Iowa.
