Maharishi School 8th graders donate to local, international charities
Jun. 15, 2022 2:22 pm
As a class project, Maharishi School 8th-graders hosted an Empty Bowl Fundraiser in April 2022 to raise money to donate money to feed the hungry. The proceeds were to go to a local Jefferson County organization and to an international organization helping the Ukrainian Refugees.
Maharishi School first hosted the event in January 2016, although Empty Bowls began as a nonprofit organization about 32 years ago.
The Fairfield community enthusiastically supported the event, and 100% of all proceeds from those attending the event were donated to either The Lord’s Cupboard ($625.50) to feed locals in Jefferson County, or to World Central Kitchen ($1,876.48) to feed Ukrainian Refugees. Those attending the fundraiser chose which organization they wanted their proceeds to support.
The 8th-Graders would like to thank Everybody’s Whole Food Groceries for donating all the organic ingredients to make all the soups, and Breadtopia who donated 25 loaves of bread to serve.
The students were inspired by observing how this Empty Bowl event brought the communities together to raise awareness—and funds—to overcome growing food challenges in Jefferson County and in Ukraine.
