Marching bands to perform

Washington High School?s marching band, the Marching Demon Nation, will be among 17 bands from Iowa and Missouri competing at the Mount Pleasant Marching Band Invitational Saturday night, Sept. 17, at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

The event kicks off at 5:45 p.m. with the Mount Pleasant Middle School Marching Band performing in exhibition before the 17 bands compete in field show performances. At 10:45 p.m. the Mount Pleasant High School Panther Marching Band will give an exhibition performance before awards are handed out.

The invitational will showcase 1,760 musicians whose ensembles will feature high-energy marching, choreography, and props with tunes ranging from pop to Broadway to classical, and cover the music of greats like Bach and Beethoven, Elton John, Billy Joel, Three Dog Night, Louis Armstrong and George Gershwin.

There is an admission fee and concessions will be available throughout the evening. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Mount Pleasant Music Boosters, who support the K-12 music program.

Pleasant Middle School - 5:45 pm (exhibition); Highland, Missouri - 6; Highland High School - 6:15;Central Lee - 6:30; Wapello - 6:45; Mediapolis - 7; West Liberty - 7:30; Davis County - 7:45; Washington - 8; Benton Community - 8:15; Solon - 8:30; Mount Vernon - 8:45; Marion - 9; Fort Madison - 9:15; Muscatine - 9:45; Francis Howell North, Missouri - 10; Cedar Rapids Jefferson - 10:15; Davenport Central - 10:30; and Mt. Pleasant - 10:45 (exhibition).
