Martha Lowe to celebrate 100th birthday

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Martha Lowe, a life-long resident of Washington, Iowa, will celebrate her 100th birthday.

Martha grew up on the Turnipseed farm north of Washington on Highway 1 and attended Prairie Flower School through the 8th grade. She graduated from Washington High School in 1941 where she met and married Bob Lowe Jr. They remained married for 67 years. After their three children, Dan, Tom and Sue, all entered school, Martha spent many years working at Phillips Drug on the west side of the square, then moved to McDaniels Drug on the north side for another 17 years. She retired in 1985 to take care of her husband who was ill.

Martha’s family will help her celebrate her centenary birthday on March 4 and invites the public to stop by and greet her that afternoon between 2:15-4:15 p.m. in the Community Room of the new YMCA in Washington.
