Martha Washington Questers 1032 met on Nov. 21, 2014, at the home of Vicki Ealy. Eight members attended. President Linda Newlon opened the meeting with the Questers Invocation. Hostess was Vicki Ealy, and co-hostess was Pat Johnson. The minutes were read and approved, as was the treasurer?s report. Dues will be due in March. They will be $35.
Plans were made for decorating the tree in Conger House. The theme is Victorian. Janet has made Victorian crackers; Vicki, some candles with clothespin holders; Marilyn, many Victorian decorations; Pat, a tree topper; and Linda, a tree skirt. They will decorate at 9 a.m. on Dec. 3.
Linda is still working on putting the club on the list to volunteer for the 2016 Questers Convention in Des Moines. It was decided to give $25 to the State Preservation and Restoration fund this year instead of the State Glass Collection.
A card was signed and will be sent to member Mary Statler, who has been ill lately. The next meeting will not be until March.
The program was given by Jane Fehr on paper dolls. She shared how early paper dolls (1800s) were given away as advertising for different products. Every time someone bought more of the product, that customer got more clothes for the doll. Paper dolls were also found in newspapers and magazines, like Betsy McCall in the McCall?s magazine. The popularity of paper dolls reached its prime in the 1940s and 1950s. Movie star paper dolls were popular, like Mary Martin and Rita Hayworth, as was the Shirley Temple doll. Jane showed lots of examples of dolls, and then the group reminisced about dolls of their childhood. Janet Peterson shared two dolls that were special because they had hair, and also a quilt with dolls on it that had clothes. All in all, it was an interesting program and a good trip down memory lane.
The March 27, 2015, meeting will be at the home of Marilyn Whitenack, who will also give the program. Co-hostess will be Vicki Ealy.
