Nine members of Martha Washington Questers met Nov. 18, 2022 at the home of Dorothy Miller, with guest Sandy Weller giving her program on the topic of the day, button collecting.
Roll call was answered by each showing their own button jars. A very interesting program ensued with Sandy telling how she began her interest 30 years ago with buttons; the shows, events and awards she has been given and the thrill of looking for the right ones to complete a card.
She passed around large cards of beautiful buttons with names such as moonglow, lusters, red glass, rhinestone, art deco, junques and bakelite to name a few. Some looked like expensive brooches instead of buttons. She tested us on the basic facts and history of buttons.
President Jane Fehr led a short business meeting with October minutes read and corrected, and the Treasurer balance all approved. It was noted again the annual dues have gone up and must be paid in March of 2023. An article and picture of our 40th anniversary has been sent to Hawkeye Tales. Linda Newlon brought an article showing a picture of our 2017 State Day in Davenport where Quester funds and our donation were used in renovation of a one-room schoolhouse, which is now completed and in use.
The group adjourned and assorted fall refreshments were served by Dorothy and co-hostess Connie Pence. Next meeting will be in March 2023 with Linda Newlon.
