Martha Washington Questers meet at church
Jun. 24, 2021 7:24 pm
Eight members and two guests of the Martha Washington Questers met May 21 at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Jane Fehr served as hostess, assisted by Marilyn Whitenack.
The meeting was opened by Marilyn and all recited the pledge. Each member answered the roll with their favorite nursery rhyme, the theme of the day. Guests Martha Russell and Barbara Wehr participated and were welcomed by all.
Marilyn relayed information about Juneteenth, the celebrated month when in 1865 African American slaves were freed in Galveston, Texas. This bit of trivia was from the TV program “The Moe You Know.” Various rhymes such as Georgie Porgy, Little Miss Muffett, Humpty Dumpty, Little Jack Horner, were told and reasons for liking them or why they were special were expressed. Members also brought nursery rhyme books they had as children and shared special memories from these poems, fairy tales and nursery rhymes.
Previous minutes and treasurer reports were given and approved as read. Bills were allowed for the apron ordered, and memorial pin, which will be worn by the president during her term of office.
A meaningful memorial service was given by Marilyn and Jane honoring previous members Margaret Stanghor and Jan Stiles. The purchased pin is in memory of Jan and the Lutheran Church will be picking a fitting memorial with our donation for Margaret.
New booklets will be made up, and volunteers were asked to assemble those. Announcement was made about our June 25 outing to the Anne Frank Museum. The group chose the luncheon venue, which will be at Good Rest and Lounge on Third Street in Burlington, then we will tour a few places of interest.
Drivers for the day are Linda, Connie and Dorothy. This will be the final gathering for the summer. Meeting was adjourned and an array of fruits and cakes were served by Marilyn and Jane.
