Martha Washington Questers meet at home of Jane Fehr
By Connie Pence
Sep. 12, 2024 2:51 pm
President Jane Fehr hosted Martha Washington Questers of Washington, Iowa, in her home on Aug. 23, 2024, with 12 members answering the roll and new officers in place.
Secretary Connie Pence read the minutes of the May meeting and Sally Beezley gave the Treasurer’s report, both were approved as read. Sally has opened a new account at Central State Bank where the monthly balances will be deposited. Correspondence was received from Linda Newlon thanking the group for the encouraging note sent to her.
New replacement pages to update our handbook were given out, with new programs discussed and hostesses being outlined for the coming year. President Jane announced we will be visiting the Harlan-Lincoln House in Mt. Pleasant for our September meeting, drivers for the day are Hostess & Vice President Jennine Wolf, CoHostess Jolene Colthurst, and Connie Pence. We will stop at Your Choice restaurant in Wayland for lunch and proceed on to our tour.
Reminder was given to register for Questers Fall Fling, being held in Kalona at the Historical Village on October 18, 2024 and the next day October 19, 2024 in Iowa City at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, ISU Extension building. Registration sheets were passed around and individuals will reserve on their own, deadline of October 1. Various tours in Kalona on Friday and many interesting speakers for Saturday promise a good time.
The business meeting was followed by a program on Questers founder Bess Bardens, as this is the 80th anniversary of the National Questers organization. We learned how persistent she was in wanting to start a club truly as interested in studying of beautiful and intriguing antiques as she was, and not being just a social club. Her slogan 'It's Fun to Search and a Joy to Find' is to this day the Questers’ motto. The idea of wanting to learn more, know about and share the histories of our finds makes up our purpose.
CoHostess Sally Beezely served fruit, cheese, and a delicious Anniversary cake, which was baked and beautifully decorated by Marilyn Whitenack.
