Martha Washington Questers 1032 met on Sept. 28, 2018k at the home of Marge Lasek. Marge also provided the refreshments and the program. Eight members attended, and the group opened with the Questers Invocation. The minutes of the August meeting were read by secretary Jane Fehr and approved as read. Treasurer Janet Peterson was absent, so the club will have the treasurer's report next month. Leader Virginia Reighard reported on several topics of business. She said that the Fall Quester Quarterly reported that Iowa has the most Quester chapters of any state. International Quester meeting will be in Windsor, Canada, on April 29 to May 2. She announced that an Iowan had won second place in the Founders Award, which is an essay on a given topic. The topic for next year will be Hotels and Railroads.
Connie Pence reported on her task to find some ways that the group can contribute to some of the historical places around Washington. Jane will check on needs of the Log Cabin, and Connie will check with the F Troop folks. It was suggested that some of these sites might be good for the club's June Tour.
Upcoming events include the DAR jewelry sale on Nov. 2-3 and the Quester Fall Fling on Oct. 5-6 in Cedar Rapids and Amana. Linda, Jane, Dorothy and Marilyn are going on Friday; and Jane, Janet and Linda are going on Saturday. The Friday group will meet for lunch at the Ox Yoke Inn at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, and Linda will be the driver. It was decided to give the driver a certain amount apiece for gas.
Marge Lasek presented the program on the many quilts that she had made through the years. 'She started quilting at the age of 7. Since then she has quilted many pictures of birds and trees, holiday events and animals. Marge never sells her work, but gives them to relatives and friends. One of her favorites is made from an embroidered sheet done by her aunt and quilted by her later in life.
For refreshments Marge served three kinds of pie, which were all delicious.
The next meeting will be Oct. 26 at Jane Fehr's home, with Virginia Reighard as co-hostess.
