Matzen-Avery wed

Jean Elizabeth Matzen and Mitchell Stuart Johannes Avery were married outdoors on Sept. 25, 2021 at the bride’s home in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Phil Avery, the groom’s father, officiated the ceremony with a few family members and friends in attendance.
The bride wore a floor-length dress with a lace bodice, cap sleeves, and a tulle skirt. She carried a bouquet of white roses.
Mrs. Matzen graduated from Fairfield High School in 2006, and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.S. degree in biology. She earned a master’s degree in English online while teaching in Waterloo with an emphasis in creative writing. She now teaches science and social studies at the North Tama County School District.
The groom graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. degree in economics and a master’s degree in public policy with an emphasis in public health. He is employed at the University of Northern Iowa as a researcher.
The bride is the daughter of Jane Matzen of Fairfield and Paul Matzen of Manchester. Mr. Avery is the son of Phil and Robyn Avery of Carmel, Indiana.
The reception will be held on April 9. Next summer, the couple hope to visit Mr. Avery’s grandfather in Christchurch, New Zealand.
