The Mid-Prairie Community School District was once again well represented in the Washington Municipal Band this past summer. The band is made up of musicians from Washington County, and some communities as far away as Muscatine and Iowa City.
The band has about 50 musicians on any given concert. The band plays for 10 weeks during the summer, with additional mini concerts at the UP Home and Halcyon House for those who cannot get to the concerts on the square.
As many as 25 Mid-Prairie students and staff played in the band through the summer. All three instrumental directors (Norman Brooks, Ross Schumaker, David Kunz) played in the band as well as the high school choir director (Collette McClellan). The entire saxophone section was made up of Mid-Prairie students.
