Mid-Prairie FFA members receive Iowa FFA degrees
Ten Mid-Prairie FFA members received the Iowa FFA Degree during the State FFA convention in Ames April 17-19. The requirements for the degree are holding the Chapter FFA degree, having completed at least two years of ag courses, being a member for 24 months, earned at least $1,000 or worked 300 unpaid hours outside of class time, demonstrated leadership abilities, participated in at least five FFA activities ...

Ten Mid-Prairie FFA members received the Iowa FFA Degree during the State FFA convention in Ames April 17-19. The requirements for the degree are holding the Chapter FFA degree, having completed at least two years of ag courses, being a member for 24 months, earned at least $1,000 or worked 300 unpaid hours outside of class time, demonstrated leadership abilities, participated in at least five FFA activities above the chapter level and have a satisfactory scholarship scholastic record.
The ten were Makenzie Fay, daughter of Stephan and Elizabeth Fay; Brent Foster, son of Jeff and Tammy Foster; Rebecca Frantz, daughter of Barry and Clara Frantz; Hunter Eden, son of Douglas Eden and Kay Eden; Rachel Harapat, daughter of Michael and Claire Harapat; Olivia Nisly, daughter of Carly and Jenny Nisly; Lindsey Palmer, daughter of James and Donna Palmer; Greta Schmidt, daughter of Benjamin and Elsa Schmidt; Erica Slabaugh, daughter of Mer and Kathy Slabaugh; and Mikayla Ulin, daughter of Tom and Carmela Ulin.
Fay?s SAE has been vegetable production. She spends lots of time taking great care of these vegetables for contests at the State Fair. Makenzie has been involved in putting up flags at the football games, roadside cleanup, Food for America, middle school recruitment, and FFA week. Her favorite memory with FFA has been receiving Gold on the chapter display at State Convention.
Foster?s SAE project includes raising goats (dairy/meat) and dairy steers. He spends many hours working on his family?s farm. Brent has participated in the Team Ag Sales, State Convention, National Convention, flags at football games, and Memorial Day flags. His favorite memory of FFA has been the chapter officer retreat trail walks.
Frantz?s SAE project includes gardening and home improvement projects. She does landscaping around the house and spent time on her garden which consist of different vegetables and fruits. Some activities she is involved in have been ushering at the Iowa State Fair, being apart of the officer team, attending State Convention, Goldenhawk Showdown, and excelling in fruit sales. Her favorite FFA memory is ushering at the Iowa State Fair.
Eden?s SAE consists of landscape management. He has landscaped around the house, mowed the lawn, mended fences, and other projects. Some of the activities he has been involved in consist of National Convention, State Convention, Goldenhawk Showdown, roadside cleanup, and COLT. His favorite FFA memory is the annual officer trip.
Harapat?s SAE included fruit and vegetable production. Some of the events she was in were State Convention, National Convention, livestock judging, roadside cleanup, and Greenhand Fire-up. Her favorite FFA memory was all the endless jokes on bus rides to events.
Nisly?s SAE was equine science. While in FFA, Olivia attended the FFA assembly, Goldenhawk Showdown, roadside cleanup, showing horses at Johnson County Fair, and the ice cream social. Her favorite FFA memory was bonding with other members on the way to National Convention.
Palmer?s SAE was raised small animal production with her rabbits. Lindsey has served as FFA Chapter Secretary, attended WLC, National Convention, State Convention, exhibited at the Johnson County and Iowa State Fair. Her favorite memory has been winning the senior rabbit showmanship at Johnson County Fair.
Schmidt?s SAE included her meat goats, horticulture, and floriculture. Greta served as Mid-Prairie?s FFA Chapter Reporter with doing their scrapbook. She attended WLC, COLT, Ushering as well as roadside cleanup. Greta?s favorite FFA memory was Ushering at the Iowa State Fair.
Slabaugh?s SAE consisted of small and large animal production. Some events she has been involved in are National Convention, State Convention, Goldenhawk Showdown, roadside cleanup, and WLC. Erica?s favorite memory while being in FFA has been the long car ride to National Convention.
Ulin?s SAE project includes gardening. Mikayla plants a variety of different fruits and vegetables. Some of her favorite events she has attended were COLT, roadside cleanup, Greenhand Fire-up, State Fair Exhibit, and National FFA Week. Her favorite memory is the annual officer camping trip.
