The Mid-Prairie 5th grade band held a very successful meet and greet to start out the year with their director, Shawn Sandersfeld. It was great to see so many excited young musicians ready to start their band careers! 5th grade Band now gets to meet every Thursday during the school day, so we are thrilled for those students!
The Middle School band and choirs had great performances at the Fall Festival, and are preparing for their winter concerts. We welcomed Jennifer Zeglis to the fine arts faculty as our new middle school band director. Three middle school choir students, under the direction of Luetta Ropp, have been accepted into OPUS, the middle school level of All-State Choir. We are so proud of them and wish them luck in their performance in November at Ames.
The High School Marching Band, under the direction of David Kunz, had a great time playing for our football team, and received a Division I (Superior) rating at the State Marching Band Contest in Pella! They also competed at the West Liberty Marching Invite and received first place there, along with first place for hornline. On the same day, they traveled to Muscatine to compete in that invitational and received second place, along with awards for outstanding drum majors and outstanding drumline.
The High School Jazz Band has been asked to perform for the Corridor Jazz Project, which culminates in a professional recording and concert in Iowa City this coming spring.
The musical cast of Into the Woods, under the direction of Christy Meader, Lisa Helmuth, and Collette McClellen, is eagerly gearing up for their performances Nov. 3, 4, 5.
