Mid-Prairie speech team competes at districts

On Saturday, Feb. 26, the Mid-Prairie Individual Events Speech team competed at Tri-County Schools for the Iowa High School Speech Association Individual Events District Speech Contest.

Of the 14 students with 22 events that competed, 19 events are advancing to State IE Contest at Grinnell High School on Saturday, March 12. The results are as follows:

Diego Ayala: Division 1 rating in Spontaneous Speaking

Haydon Bailey: Division 1 ratings in Solo Acting and Solo Musical Theatre.

Alex Burnham: Division 1 rating in Storytelling

Jacob Carrillo: Division 1 ratings in Solo Acting and Solo Improvisation

Liv Caskey: Division 1 ratings in Solo Musical Theatre and After Dinner Speaking.

Avery Frede: Division 1 rating in Solo Improvisation.

Isadora Goode: Division 2 rating in Spontaneous Speaking, Division 1 rating in Interpretive Poetry

Jack Greiner: Division 1 rating in Solo Improvisation

Logan McClellen: Division 1 rating in Storytelling.

Terra Richardson: Division 1 ratings in Solo Acting and After Dinner Speaking.

Emily Righter: Division 1 ratings in Radio News Broadcasting and Public Address

Daniel Rodgers: Division 2 rating in Reviewing, and Division 1 rating in Interpretive Poetry.

Avery Slaubaugh: Division 1 ratings in Interpretive Prose, and Solo Musical Theatre

Sam Stacey: Division 2 rating in Radio News Broadcasting

At the IHSSA State Individual Events Contest, the performers will have the chance to be nominated to perform at the IHSSA All-State Individual Events Festival, which will occur on Monday, March 28 at UNI in Cedar Falls. At least two of three judges in each performer's center must nominate a student for them to qualify for All-State. Participants in the IHSSA All-State Individual Events Festival represent the top 5% of all IE participants across the state of Iowa.
