On Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, eight Mid-Prairie students auditioned for the Southeast Iowa Honor Band at Fairfield High School. From the middle school were Kaia Temple, trumpet; Katie Palmer, alto saxophone; Lubov Kazakov, horn; Cary Schaefer, baritone saxophone; Daniel Gelement, tenor saxophone; and Ada Hulseberg, tenor saxophone. From the Home School Assistance Program was Sarah Nus, flute. From the high school was Emily Meader, baritone saxophone.
Preparing for over a month, these students practiced very difficult selections of music to perform for a judge at the audition. Competing with fellow musicians from schools in the southeast portion of the state, these eight Mid-Prairie students worked very hard and have a lot to be proud of!
Selected for the honor band were Lubov Kazakov, Sarah Nus, and Emily Meader. These three students traveled to Iowa City West high school on Saturday, Jan. 25, for the SEIBA honor band. Congratulations to these three ladies for their hard work.
The Mid-Prairie middle school band is under the direction of Ross Schumaker; the Mid-Prairie HSAP band program is under the direction of Norman Brooks, and the Mid-Prairie High School band is under the direction of David Kunz.
