On Saturday, April 11, approximately 70 high school band and choir students competed at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Students involved in this event spend many hours outside the classroom preparing their music. Judges score students on multiple aspects, including: tone quality, intonation, rhythm, technique, interpretation/musicianship, diction, and general poise/facial expressions/choice of literature. A "I" rating is a superior rating, a "II" rating is excellent, and a "III" rating is good. No Mid-Prairie students received a IV or V rating.
In the choral department, six students performed vocal solos. Isaiah Sents, Haylee Marner, and Hannah Van Roekel all received I ratings. Erin Campbell and Jami TeBockhorst received II ratings, and Sawyer Black received a III rating.
Eight vocal ensembles performed throughout the day, as well.
Brianna Adam and Lizzie Wildeboer performed ?The Journey,? and ?Sing Cantate, Domino.? They received a III rating.
The Royal Court performed ?Bonzorno, Madonna,? and ?Blessed Be That Maid Marie? and was one point away from a perfect score and so received a I rating.

The women of the Royal Court performed ?Family Tree? and ?Mangwani, Mpulele.? They only missed one point, earning a I rating.
